MAY FROST'S SUET PUDDING
May Meacham Frost, circa 1904
PUDDING
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 cup sour milk*
- 1-1/2 cup chopped suet
- 1-1/2 cup chopped raisins
- 4 cups flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 egg
Mix all ingredients. Pour into greased steamer pan and steam for three hours. Serve with hard sauce.
* Note: you can add vinegar or lemon juice to regular milk to sour it:
- 1-1/3 tablespoons vinegar and sweet milk to make 1 cup
- or
- 1-1/2 tablespoons lemon juice and sweet milk to make 1 cup
HARD SAUCE
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 cups confectioners sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2 Tbs. rum or brandy
Cream sugar and butter. Add flavorings. Chill.
