To Missoula on the Northern Parks Ltd. |
Saturday May 27, 2000 - Gates of the Mountains Upon pulling into Helena, we took the bus to the Gates of the Mountains for a boat trip on the Missouri through Meriwether Canyon, a section bounded by steep cliffs and rock formations that the Lewis and Clark Expedition passed through in July, 1805 in canoes.
We then drove back to the train for cocktails and dinner. The food on board is very good but they cook most of the food ahead of time (because of close quarters) and so you can't get rare meat. We have appetizers before dinner, salad, main course, and dessert. We spent the night on the train which was stabled in the outskirts of Helena.
