To Missoula on the Northern Parks Ltd. |
Sunday May 28, 2000 - Virginia City and Nevada City Our bus took us through the Montana ranch country to the restored ghost towns of Virginia City and Nevada City where we saw original buildings of the mining days. Virginia City features a Wells Fargo Mail Office. Particularly intriguing is a two-story outhouse attached to a hotel. We're not sure how it works!
One of the highlights was listening to several mechanical music machines in the Nevada City Music Hall, including a huge band organ and an "Obnoxous Horn." After that we traveled by bus to Manhattan where we reboarded our train, had cocktails, appetizers and dinner while traveling over Bozeman Pass to Livingston, through beautiful rolling countryside. We had been scheduled to visit the Livingston train depot, but were not able to because of some renovation work. We spent the night in Livingston, which is the end of the line for our train trip.
