Also evident are the unusual rock formations and thermal features, generally involving hot water and steam coming out of the ground. Two such features are hot springs and geysers. We stopped at Old Faithful and watched an eruption.

The other notable feature is the remnants of the 1988 fires and the vast quantity of dead trees that have fallen in the wind. Everywhere you look you see what looks like the remnants of logging operations.
