Filippo Brunelleschi's dome, as seen from the Campanile on a very rainy day. It was quite a feat of engineering in its day, which required Brunelleschi to invent the modern crane. Most of Europe's great domes, including St. Peter's in Rome, were built using Brunelleschi's methods. |
