Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge)

This bridge over the Arno was built in 1345. At first the shops on the bridge held butchers and blacksmiths, but Ferdinando Medici, who had a private passageway along the top, threw them out and replaced them with goldsmiths and jewelers, who have remained ever since.
