To Missoula on the Northern Parks Ltd. |
Thursday May 25, 2000 - Blackfeet Reservation and St. Mary Breakfast this morning included huckleberry pancakes - I see a trend developing! Today we will travel east over the Continental Divide to the Blackfeet Reservation and to St. Mary on the Northeast side of Glacier National Park, an area called Many Glacier. When we left the inn this morning, our bus followed the Middle Fork of the Flathead River and the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe railroad tracks. We saw snow sheds along the tracks, which have been built in avalanche areas to protect the trains. Our first stop today was Goat Lick where we had our first look at some mountain goats. From the bus window we saw Step Falls, coming down the mountain in steps. We also saw a train crossing a trestle bridge at this stop that must have just passed the Isaak Walton Inn and is now heading for the Continental Divide at Marias Pass.
