Wednesday May 24, 2000 - Izaak Walton Inn

After returning to the bus, we followed the north fork of the Flathead River to Izaak Walton Inn in Essex.
It is right on the current Burlington Northern line (originally the Great Northern) and was used as housing for the crews who helped construct the Great Northern over the pass. It is now an inn for tourists and is very pretty and rustic. In am taking the picture above standing between the tracks and the Inn. Several freight trains and Amtraks pass by each day.

The beds in our room have handmade quilts on spindle beds. We had a social hour and then had dinner in the dining room - grilled chicken with huckleberry sauce.

Tomorrow's itinerary includes a bus trip to the Blackfeet Indian Reservation and two of Glacier Park's famous lodges.
