Climbing east from Zion Canyon on a series of switchbacks on the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway (State Route 9) we caught some views of the canyon from higher elevations than the canyon floor, along the Virgin River. Just past the tunnel, still within the park, we entered East Zion, an area of rock formations with unusual erosion patterns. After leaving East Zion, we took a detour to Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park south of Zion. Red Canyon is just before Bryce Canyon.
